Naomi D Neufeld, MD
Dr. Neufeld is a pediatric endocrinologist who has been in private practice in Los Angeles since 1997. The Consumers’ Research Council of America has listed her as one of America’s Top Pediatricians. She has been on the Attending Staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center since 1978. She served as that prestigious hospital’s Founding Director of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology until 1995.
A graduate of Brown University in Providence, RI where she earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Medical Sciences degrees, Dr. Neufeld received her MD degree from Tufts University in Boston.
She did her pediatric internship and residency at Rhode Island Hospital. She completed her Fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at the UCLA Center for Health Sciences, where she was a recipient of an NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship. She received a Clinical Investigator Award from the National Institutes of Health. She and her team were the first to identify the epidemic of Type 2 diabetes among Mexican-American children,
She is the founder of KidShape, Inc., a family-based weight management program for children. KidShape which operated since 1986 with franchises throughout the United States. KidShape was featured in the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, the Home Show, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. In 2012, after KidShape closed, Dr. Neufeld founded the Children’s Wellness Institute, which provides online curricula and training programs for healthcare institutions throughout the country. Dr. Neufeld and her team developed an app for use with the program, and subsequently published and analysis of the program, attesting to its success across multiple clinical locations. Her work in childhood obesity drew the attention of the White House and in 2006 Dr. Neufeld became a finalist for the position of Surgeon General of the United States.
In addition to numerous research articles, Dr Neufeld has authored two books, "KidShape: A practical prescription for raising healthy, fit children" and "KidShape Café: Over 150 Kid-Tested recipes that will help your family."
As a clinical researcher, Dr, Neufeld has conducted over 25 pediatric clinical trials in the areas of childhood obesity diabetes, high blood pressure and growth hormone deficiency. Dr. Neufeld is married, has two adult daughters and two granddaughters. In her spare time, she enjoys running, yoga, and raising Brittany Spaniels. She has completed the Los Angeles Marathon.
Teresa Sanchez has served as a medical assistant for Neufeld Medical Group since 1996. She is presently the Office Manager and Research Coordinator. As the Office Manager, Teresa is responsible for the front and back office duties, which consists of pulling and preparing charts, obtaining patient data, scheduling and receiving patients, insurance verifications and authorization. forms, filing medical records, and answering multi-line phones. Back office duties include obtaining vital signs (i.e. height and weight) drawing blood and preparing lab specimens, administering SQ and IM injections, assisting with hormone stimulation testing.
Teresa is also the Research Coordinator for growth hormone registry and has worked with the following companies as either the study coordinator or assistants study coordinator: : Eli Lilly, Serono, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Covance, Icon, Merck, Phase Forward, PPD, Quintiles, Sanofi-Aventis, Takeda Pharmaceutical, Smith Kline Beecham Pharmaceuticals, Tophat, BMS, Astra Zeneca, and Novartis.
Teresa has certification in the following fields, medical assistants, phlebotomy, and ECG.
